R.A.D. Women’s Self Defense Program with Wendy – August

The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D) System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.  It is a comprehensive, woman-only course, which begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance, as well as the basics of hands-on defense training.  R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program.  This course is taught by a nationally certified R.A.D. Instructor and provides each student with a resourceful handout.  The course includes lecture, discussion, and self-defense techniques, suitable for all women of all ages and abilities.

Mission: 

To prevent crimes of sexual violence in our community through education and training. To educate women of realistic options to avoid and escape assault.

Key Program Elements:

Risk reduction strategies that can be easily implemented around the home, car, public transportation, cell phone, internet, and more.
Basic physical defense techniques that are explained, demonstrated, practiced, and employed with light impact.

**90% of self-defense is risk awareness, risk reduction and avoiding confrontation…the remaining 10% is physical.

Note about the Instructor:

Wendy Hassenpflug is a licensed instructor with The National Academy of Defense Education and is authorized to teach the R.A.D. Systems Basic Physical Defense for Women programs.  She has been teaching Sexual Assault Defense for Women at California State University, Northridge since 2018.  She holds a master’s degree in kinesiology, and has been a fitness and wellness professional since 2006.

R.A.D. is a women-only course that consists of 3 hours of instruction, which covers risk reduction and avoidance, basic hands-on defense training, and resourceful handout.

Wendy  MS, E-RYT, CPT, is a yoga and wellness entrepreneur.  She is the owner and founder of Vayu Yoga®, an aerial yoga practice.  She is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, and has resided in Santa Clarita, California since 2001.  Wendy has over 30 years of experience teaching dance, yoga, Pilates, fitness and somatic (mind-body) practices to students of all ages in private and public sectors.  She is a certified personal trainer, holistic nutritionist, E-RYT200 and certified Pilates teacher.   She has been a professor in the Kinesiology department at California State University, Northridge, since 2009, as well as the dance department at College of the Canyons.  Wendy assists others in finding their true potential by consciously and consistently becoming better versions of themselves, each and every day.
